Interwetten increases 2014 net income by 64%

Gzira, 26.01.2015; Werner Becher, Spokesman for the Interwetten Board of Directors, has reported sensational growth in the 2014 business year – excellent news ahead of the online sports betting pioneer’s 25th anniversary.

Betting turnover in 2014 climbed by approximately 15% to €800 million, while Gross Gaming Revenue rose 18% to €46.3 million. Net income shot up 64% to €7.4 million. In the fourth quarter of 2014 alone, the revenue exceeded €11.4 million – an increase of 17% when compared to the same period a year earlier. Therefore, the company’s growth rate continued to accelerate even faster than expected.

Reporting on growth that has exceeded all expectations, Becher is more than satisfied: “Regulatory conditions forced us to withdraw from Belgium. Moreover, a lack of promising market development and licence opportunities led us to sell our Italian licence and exit that market completely. Nevertheless, thanks to an intelligent marketing mix strategy and innovative mobile solutions, 2014 will go down as one of the most successful years in the company’s history.”

Return to core markets
At the start of December 2014, Interwetten joined forces with one of the licensed providers to return to the Greek market, which used to be the most important market for the company in the past. The online sports betting pioneer is now up and running with a legally compliant offer available at www.interwetten.gr.

A further milestone will be reached at the start of February. By launching a fully managed online platform for a well-known European betting agency, Interwetten will be able to indirectly retake a market lost due to regulatory reasons. “I am particularly delighted about the cooperation with the new B2B customer, for this traditional betting provider sought Interwetten as a B2B partner for its online segment having come to the conclusion that we have the market’s best online product.”

New Spanish agency & greater TV coverage
Having switched advertising agency, Interwetten will launch a new media mix and TV ads in the licensed Spanish market as from February this year. The new-look image will be even more appealing with the expected authorisation for slot games at www.interwetten.es.

The company is also set to significantly step up its TV presence in Germany and Austria over the coming few weeks with a view to consolidating its position among the top five providers in the German-speaking region. “Although the legal situation in Germany is still uncertain, my confidence is growing day by day that the long-term investments of Interwetten and the increase in significant market share will prove to be of great value for the company in the future,” commented Becher on the importance of the measures taken.

25 years of Interwetten – the success story continues
This year, Interwetten is celebrating its 25th anniversary. For this reason, customers will have the chance to make the most of a variety of special offers and promotions. Given the figures released today, Werner Becher has good reason to be happy with Interwetten’s success story: “We may be a dinosaur compared to the average age of the industry in continental Europe, but we definitely perform much stronger than some of our younger competitors!”

Thanks to a significant increase in the number of active customers and the daily Net Gaming Revenue, Interwetten has a very strong platform from which to start 2015. Given the better than expected results of the final quarter of 2014, the company’s management has budgeted for an 8-digit figure for the EBITDA for the first time in the company’s history. Moreover, the company is confident of exceeding even this budget plan in 2015.
